SignOnSanDiego: Feds seize weapons, ammo from La Mesa man

  • stairman · 1 month ago
Morgan has no known criminal history and the motive for his activity has not been determined, officials said.

I guess if you have a collection of 48 cars you should have all of your gas and tires confiscated because of the possibility that you may drive drunk oneday and kill somebody.
  • Butkus · 1 month ago
Hmmm I think that having 200,000 rounds of ammo and several illegally modified weapons is a bit different than owning some cars
  • Peter · 1 month ago
The modifications were related to California gun laws not federal laws according to the ATF Press release. Meaning he had not modified a firearms into a fully atomatic type firearm only into something that California considers scary, but can be purchased in the other states since the expiration of the federal assaul weapons ban over five years ago.

So.... if this guy was bringing all these weapons and ammo in to sell them, how come he had them all at his house?

Sounds to me like he was just stock piling because he knew he lived in a state that would most likely be at the forefront of taking away his rights.

Where do you people get all this stuff about selling to Mexico? I saw no mention of anything like that.
  • 1EasyTarget · 1 month ago
They pulled it out of their diseased little minds, made it up out of whole cloth, based it on what the whacked out legislature has been feeding them, take your pick. There was nothing in the story to base it on so it must have come out of someones butt.

My original posting disappeared so I'm repeating it. For all the NRA supporters please don't get David Morgan confused with the guy next door that collects a few weapons. This guy is going to another state to buy weapons and extensive amounts of ammo so he can make some money. He isn't getting some type of rifle that is restricted in Ca for his own personal use. He's stocking up on ammo and guns for 1) selling them to anyone that will pay the price including criminals and gangs - both U.S. and Mexican or 2) He's mentally unstable and thinks he needs to stock up to fight the cops and other intruders. Either way, he is not what the second amendment should be protecting. Keep in mind that nearly all the amendments have some sort of restriction on them. Free speech is limited to the context and environment the words are spoken. Unlimited ownership of powerful assault rifles, machine guns and other military type weapons are either illegal or very restricted so the second amendment has restrictions. The fourth amendment has several exceptions to the need for a search warrant. So save the NRA protective stance for someone that deserves it. This guy was nothing more than a person wanting to make money on the sales of weapons or, even worse, an unstable nut case stocking up weapons and ammo.

Your use of the term powerful assault rifle leads me to question how much you even know about firearms and the laws regulating their possession. By definition an assault rifle can operate in a full automatic or burst mode and uses a medium powered cartridge. Federal laws no longer prohibit the acquiring of what many term an assault weapon, which is a term made up by the anti-gun groups to demonize firearms that resemble military weapons. Furthermore, federal law also allows for those that pass a background check and get apporval from state and local law enforcement to legally own machineguns. However, in California the state and local approval is normally with held except for the Hollywood studios. What is the basis for your implications that Morgan intended to sell to gangs or to Mexican cartels? The ATF press release mentions the modifications as being relevant to California laws, which leads me to think Morgan was trying to get something that CA doesn't allow him to have because of its perceived lethality. I am not condoning his alleged use of fraudulently obtained ID, but considering the resources used to investigate him I suspect this arrest is being hyped way out of proportion.

I hope whoever is responsible for the malfunctioning new web site is canned. The original article with all the comments will not display and the comments were not brought over to this location, which is the same article as the original.

I agree , this thing needs a lot of work .
  • 1EasyTarget · 1 month ago
I agree. 30 seconds to change pages. 2 minutes to post a comment. Disorganized placement, unnecessary animations and video.

Your old format had a lot going for it in that it was easy to use, fast and mostly text based. If you can't speed this mess up, you will lose the few remaining viewers.

I never believe anything ATF gestapo agents say.
  • MohicianZ · 1 month ago
The Fed's, should not Create any law, that has any thing to do with an Americans Right to own weapons. To them I would say if I were a Judge get out of California and go on back to the District of Columbia. Which is not part of this Country. If this man did not use these weapons in the act of commiting a crime I see no law broken. ( IBelieve No Law was broken).

"tracked him down from his IP" get it?
  • MohicianZ · 1 month ago
Yeah I get it. But there is nothing around here or should I say it does not exist.

Great job. These Republican Loonatics are a danger to everyone else as well as themselves. The last thing they need is an arsenal.
  • UnmaskedAvenger · 1 month ago
    right = left

a loon is a loon, and baseless name-calling shows stupidity...no matter what side you're on.
  • Rezqewr · 1 month ago
And you know this individual's political beliefs how, exactly?

Zango the troll has spoken out of his (derriere), as usual.

Good job getting this douchebag off the streets, ATF.

Right down the street. Who'd a known? Just b/c he has no record doesn't mean anything. Most of these tea bag types are novice protestors. They love all wars so haven't been in the streets the last 8 years. They have been smirking right along with 43, beck, limpbough et al. In fact, even tho bush was destroying the economy they stayed home and quiet until, glory me, we elected a scary Black man!
  • 1EasyTarget · 1 month ago
    Bush derangement syndrome.

This is level of mindless, baseless hatred is what is truly scary.
  • gallimaufry · 1 month ago

I wonder how much other stuff is smuggled into the Left Coast? Guns are probably not the only things people can make lots of money on.

I wonder what the black market is like for cigarettes, gasoline, booze, incandescent bulbs, plasma TV's, handicap parking placards...

    Deron.
